Search Engine Marketing
Search Engine Marketing or SEM as it is known as, is where you take advantage of search engine advertising programs such as Google AdWords, Microsoft AdCenter or Yahoo! Search Marketing to improve you traffic.
So how does it all work?
Basically, you setup a budget within the search marketing program of your choice, choosing which keywords you would like and how much you are willing to pay for them.
The programs can be set to pay-per-click (PPC) or cost-per-impression (CPI) meaning you can pay for the views or the clicks.
These type of ads can appear above natural search engine results, meaning you can get a steady flow of traffic to your website without holding the number one position, however it has ongoing costs. The more popular your search keywords, the more expensive it can be to get traffic.
